Eating and Drinking

If you would like to cater for yourself, you will find all the everyday groceries you need in the local supermarket. The restaurants in the village and the surrounding area are also worth a visit.

Shopping

The well-stocked Intermarché supermarket is located within walking distance on the national road. In addition to basic foodstuffs, fruit and vegetables, fish and meat, it also offers a wide range of other everyday goods. It opens daily at 8.30 am and closes at 8 pm (9 pm in summer).

In nearby Vila do Bispo, a Lidl and an Aldi also offer a reasonably priced range of food. The Lidl is open daily from 8.30 am to 9.30 pm, the Aldi daily from 8.00 am to 9.00 pm.

There is also a municipal market in Vila do Bispo on the Rua do Mercado Municipal. It is particularly worth buying fresh fish there. However, the fruit and vegetable stalls are also a great place to feast. Right next door, the small butcher’s shop ‘Carnes Talho Butcher’ offers meat and local sausage specialities.

There is another municipal market in Sagres (Mercado Municipal 25 de Abril). The municipal markets in the municipality of Vila do Bispo are open Monday to Friday from 8.00 am to 1.00 pm and on Saturdays from 8.00 am to 1.30 pm.

Restaurants

Portugal is known for its simple but good cuisine. It’s easy to socialise over a café, or pingado for us, in one of the many cafés.

Restuarante O Tiago

Just a few steps away, opposite the church, you can dine to a good standard at Restaurante O Tiago. In season times, the restaurant is open every evening except Saturdays. Outside the season, a chalkboard provides information about the current opening hours.

Pizzeria D’Aldeia

If you like pizza, Pizzeria D’Aldeia on the N125 in Budens is the place for you. In addition to crispy pizzas, fresh salads are also on offer. The pizzeria is open daily from 3 pm to 10 pm.

Churrasqueira Mira Rio

The Churrasqueira Mira Rio, also very close by, at the end of R. do Ramal on the national road, is a simple Portuguese restaurant. On weekdays at lunchtime, the inexpensive dish of the day is well worth a visit. For a small price, you can get Portuguese home cooking such as bean stew or simple dishes such as roast chicken, including a dessert and a coffee. No wonder that workers also like to spend their lunch break here. The restaurant is closed on Saturdays and evenings.

O Sabor da Alegria

In the neighboring village of Figueira, you’ll find the restaurant “O Sabor da Alegria,” which probably serves the best pizza in the West Algarve. The dessert is also highly recommended. The simply furnished restaurant is a popular meeting spot for locals and expats. In the summer, it’s common to enjoy a beer or a glass of wine outside and watch the evening come to a close on the square across the street.
